World Rabies DayDuration: 09/28/2011, 08:30 to 09/28/2011, 16:00With WHO-collaboration center for rabies, Pasteur Institute of Iran, World rabies day will be held in Iran Airforce specialized hospital of Army University of medical science. On that day, all authorities of different organization such as CDC, veterinary organization, municipality, environmental protection agency, ministry of education, ministry of health(MOH), will participate. Lectures will be present by the authorities in the field of rabies and its control.

Rabies is one of the common zoonotic diseases in Syria. The virus is in many areas of Syria, with dogs being the principal reservoir and vector, bringing humans into contact with the virus. The presence of the disease in dogs and, in some areas, in wildlife, represents a continuing threat to public health and causes economic losses, especially in domestic livestock.
Celebrating World Rabies Day 2011 is a continuation of our previous activities to widespread awareness about the disease and its prevention. The plan is to start a vaccination campaign for dogs in our facilities in Hama for free, distributing posters about how to avoid dog bites, and a leaflet about what should you know about rabies. On the 28th of September 2011 a celebration will be held at the faculty of veterinary medicine of Al Baath university in cooperation with Spana/Syria, in which Prof. Azam Kurdi, dean of the faculty will give a speech about the role of veterinarian in the prevention of rabies, Prof. Abdul Karim Kalb Allouz, expert in Infectious Diseases will give a presentation about rabies in dogs and Prof. Darem Tabbaa Director of Spana/Syria will present the work of the animal protection project in Syria in the control of Disease in dogs. A group of school children will be involved in a workshop painting the color book "Be Safe Around Dogs" Illustrated by Albert Manson.
Physicians and veterinarians will be invited to this event, local and national media will cover this activities.
