VSF-cz World Rabies DayDuration: 09/27/2011, 9:00 am to 09/28/2011, 4:00 pmIn frame of WRD 2011, Vétérinaires sans Frontieres Tchéquie organized a charity vaccination of dogs belonging to homeless people from streets of Czech and Moravian cities. Besides the direct help to homeless people in Czech Republic, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the global rabies issue and to make a link to rabies prevention projects organized by VSF-cz in Northern Kenya. The event is supported by DYNTEC s.r.o. and local NGOs.

Marking of 28 September-the World Rabies DayDuration: 09/30/2011, 11am to 10/01/2011, 2 pmIn July 2011 the first case of rabies in wild animals (foxes), was officially confirmed in Macedonia. This is the first case in the last couple of decades. Positive cases in foxes have been confirmed in the neighboring countries in the last couple of years, (Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Bulgaria) which is in the immediate vicinity of the border with Macedonia.
Тhe sequencing of the nucleoprotein gene has demonstrated a high homology (99%) of the sequence with the one of a strain isolated in Poland (accession Genbank number AF033882 (96174POL) and of two strains isolated in Hungary (accession Genbank number RVU42999 (9384, fox) and RVU43000 (9386, fox). Those three strains were published in 1999. A 98,5 % homology was found with a sample from Bulgaria (accession Genbank number DQ300294 (fox).
The project “Building of the capacities of the veterinary service for the implementation of the EU Acquis in Macedonia” started in August 2010 in Macedonia, financed by the IPA funds.
Within the project, the Food and Veterinary Agency has implemented the following activities with regards to rabies control:
• The first campaign for oral vaccination of foxes against rabies was implemented, 18.05-09.06.2011;
• A training for hunters was realized for the implementation of the monitoring of the oral vaccination campaign, 03-06.05.2011;
• A training for the human medicine doctors was realized – Rabies Postexposure prophylaxis;
• A campaign has been realized for raising of the public awareness with regards to rabies (promotional material: brochures, posters, video, information aired on the radio);
• The system for rabies surveillance has been strengthened (first official confirmed case)
• The monitoring of the first oral vaccination of foxes against rabies is currently being implemented.

2ª Fase: Adesão da Campanha “Poppy-Um Amigo de Confiança”. Passagem e visualização do Filme da instituição da Associação Beira Agueira de Apoio ao Deficiente Visual-ABAADV-Escola de Treino de CãesGuia para Cegos, sensibilizando para a Relevância dos Animais Treinados e Cuidados na Incapacidade Humana Visual neste caso.
3ª Fase: Campanha de Alerta para os Perigos dos Roedores-Pragas de Ratos/Ratazanas como principais transmissores de Zoonoses nos Meios Rurais, com a utilização do material –poster: “RATOS! FIQUE ATENTO! Saiba como se livrar desse Hóspede Indesável eliminando os “4 A”s”- da Cordenação de Vigilância em Saúde da COVISA-São Paulo.
4ª Fase: Comemoração do Dia Mundial da Saúde 7 de Abril de 2010-MIL CIDADES; MIL VIDAS”. A nível local o lema adaptado foi “FAZER DA HIGIENE URBANA UMA CULTURA CÌVICA, FAZER DA HIGIENE CÌVICA UMA CULTURA URBANA: PREVENÇÃO DAS ZOONOSE”, com a realização dum Cartaz recriando uma banda desenha alusiva à recolha dos detritos dos animais domésticos e mascotes nas ruas e passeios. Realização e recriação no formato de Cartaz da Tira e Banda Desenhada apelativa com o lema “Calazar, Proteja seu Cachorro e sua Familia: Medidas Simples que Podem Ajudar a se Proteger contra o Mosquito!”(colaboração da My Pet)
5ªFase: Comemoração do Dia Mundial da Raiva 28 de Setembro de 2010. Assinalização do Dia comemorativo com a Realização de Cartaz recriando Banda desenhada com o Lema “Não Deixe restos de Comida ou Outros Lixos das suas Mascotes que Possam Atrair Animais Silvestres” e Distribuição de material informativo (Circular Normativa da Direcção Geral da Saúde Nº4/DSPCD, 18/02/2009-Profilaxia da Raiva Humana dirigida a Médicos e Enfermeiros; Folhetos, cartaz “Dia Mundial da Raiva, A Baixo a Raiva, da OPS; Logo da Alliance for Raviers Control; Poster “A Raiva Mata! Previna a Raiva!, Consiga Atenção Médica Imediatamente após uma Mordedura”; Panfleto “É Muito Fácil Adquirir Raiva” da WorldRabiesDay.org)

Conference on rabies eradicationDuration: 09/27/2011, 9:00am to 09/27/2011, 4:00pmVeterinary Administration of Slovenia together with Institute for human health prepared a one day event on rabies eradication. Veterinarians and physicians from Croatia also participated in the event. The main topic of the conference was the oral vaccination of foxes and safety of the vaccine baits. In frame of the event a press conference was also organized and media has received information on rabies eradication campaign in Slovenia and Croatia.
