World Rabies Day 2010

We have organized a ceremony of World Rabies Day (WRD) on 27th of Sept. 2010 in Pasteur Institute of Iran, inviting Two Hundred people from different organizations and also responsible chiefs of bite management centers coming from different provinces of Iran. During WRD, some authorities from Ministry of Health, Director of Pasteur Institute of Iran( Dr. Modaressi), general director of Center for Disease Control & Surveillance (Dr. Gouya), director of WHO-Collaborating Center for Reference & Research on Rabies(Dr. Fayaz), director of Zoonosis deputy of disease management center and director of Veterinary Organization will give their presentations. WRD will be finalized by a launch Banquet. Furthermore, regarding WRD, it is ordered to all other health centers of different provinces of Iran to have these events during WRD: - Prepare different Seminars regarding rabies and its importance. - Improvement of social awareness of community (especially high risk groups:ex. school children) via Radio, TV, journals,.. - preparing carnival, races, demonstration showing the danger of rabies - preparing exhibition showing the ways of post-exposure prophylaxis by different banners, brochures,...

Central celebration and activities for rabies control in Syria

Syria celebrate World Rabies Day since its establishment, this year a poster on dog training and a story for children about how to deal with dogs has been printed. A lot of educational material will be distributed in a central celebration under the patronage of the minister of Health and many people working with rabies will be awarded. A free dog vaccination is running at the center of Spana to improve dog owner awareness. A special program in the Syrian national television will be presented to the public with the aim of distributing information about the importance of the disease worldwide and in Syria and the role of dogs and other animals in transmitting the disease. At the same time information about prevention programs in Syria will be discussed in this event. All national newspapers will cover this event and a letter to the minister of education has been sent to celebrate this event at all Syrian schools by inseminating information about the disease and its control strategies in Syria. As rabies still a high risk factor for public health and death could be prevented by control measures the main objective of our activities to cooperate at all levels to educate all people at risk about this disease and its control. All this activities are in collaboration between the ministry of health, agriculture, local administration, education, information, governor of Hama and its directorate of health, and the the animal protection project (spana) in Syria.
