Educate and Protect yourself from rabies
Duration: September 22, to September 28th,
Our 2008 World Rabies Day project will impact more than 200,000 students during this year, most of them through the 22th and 28th of September. 600 DVDs with information and activities related to Rabies were sent to the 600 elementary public school libraries. The DVD contains educational material for kindergarten to 11th grade, including a Power Point presentation about Rabies worldwide and Rabies in Puerto Rico ;and two short videos about vaccination/ basic health care of pets and emergency preparedness. Also contains a graphic of the Rabies Vaccine Certified Stamp with a brief explanation and call to action for children to learn what the family should receive after the Rabies vaccination of their pets in order to be legally protected against the virus. Children and teachers will create an event they think is effective to learn and teach others. The main idea is to make children better guardians of thier pets, their own and their family's health. During the whole week schools will be presenting their projects and some will receive media coverage. Those very creative projects will be posted at the Puerto Rico Veterinary Medical Association web page, also at PetID.com, the most read pets magazine in Puerto Rico, local newspapers and tv, and will be invited to a tour in veterinary clinics in their communities. This is the first time both, PRMVA and the Department of Education of Puerto Rico work together to help accomplish more and more education about Rabies. As a result of this effort now we are pursuing to adjust the actual elementary schools curriculum to include, in all subjects, public health related to animal health, and the humane conducts towards them. We expect to start a pilot program next summer.

PUERTO RICO
Puerto rico, Puerto Rico (National event)Educate and Protect yourself from rabies
