National Conference on Rabies

The goals are to introduce Emergency Room physicians to correct use of modern post exposure prophylaxis and address dog bites; to bring members of health cadre to provide rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin to government hospitals; to involve local government and vets on how to control stray dogs.

World Rabies Day 2009

Activities will consist of holding central celebration under the patronage of the Minister of Health and inviting some representatives of the responsible Ministries who are Decision Makers / Ministry of Local administration – Ministry of Environment – Ministry of agriculture and agrarianism – Ministry of Interior – Ministry of Education / and representatives of the responsible sectors. The celebration will include: Words from the Minister of Health, the representative of the World Health Organization in Damascus and the International Organization of the Animal Health O.I.E. Presentation of a film about Rabies, its danger, and how to deal safely with the animals in general and with the dogs especially. Distribution of educational bulletins about Rabies and protection. Honoring/respecting and distribution awards to the best workers in the centers of rabies control in the governorates. Carrying out workshop for two days contains representatives of the three responsible ministries (Health - Local administration- agriculture and agrarianism) who are responsible for carrying out the national plan of controlling rabies, to study the plan of the controlling and to complete the imperfections, and to develop the national strategy. Carrying out an educational course for media in order to transfer the right information about rabies to the people through all kinds of the media. Presenting special program on the Syrian T.V. about Rabies. Sending out educational letters in the newspapers about Rabies and ways of controlling it. Carrying out precautionary vaccination for one week free of charge by the Department of the animal Health and Animal Protection Project (SPANA) to vaccinate dogs.
